Intro

This is the smaller spray booth near the air compressor. It is to be used only for spraying powders. Make sure that the ground clip is attached or the powder won't stick.

Rules

You must be authorized to use any of the powder coating equipment, including the spray booth.

Instructions

IMPORTANT: Make sure the Powder Coating Gun is off before starting. WARNING: Always wear nitrile gloves and an N95 mask while handling powder. The powder dust is hazardous if inhaled or exposed to skin.

IMPORTANT: Double-check the grounding wire. The wire needs to be clipped to the metal bar that your part is hanging from. The powder coating gun charges the powder with a strong positive charge which causes the powder to stick to your part due to electrostatic attraction. That doesn't happen if the part isn't grounded.

Hang Your Part

  • Hang your part from the bar inside the booth.
  • S-hooks are available and usually work well, but you may use other hooks if needed.
  • Whatever hooks you use must be metal so the part remains grounded.
  • If you use a non-metal hook, you must attach the grounding clip directly

to the part.

Test the hanging setup first in the cold furnace.

Before painting, place your part in the cold furnace and move it in and out to make sure it does not hit the grates or anything inside the oven. This is important because once the part is coated, the powder coating can easily come off if the part bumps into something while transferring it to the oven. Adjust the hooks or hanging method if necessary before painting. Sometimes 2–3 hooks may be needed depending on the part.

Start the Paint Booth

  1. Turn on the fan using the yellow box with the red knob on the left side of the paint booth.
  2. Turn the red knob UP to the ON position to start the fan.

Maintenance Info

The filters should probably be cleaned/replaced periodically
