Hybrid Meeting Etiquette
- Be excellent.
- Attendance and voting can be found in the #meetings slack channel.
- Please show up early if you are concerned about your audio.
- If there is no one waiting to speak feel free to do so at the next opportunity.
- If there is someone waiting to speak, please say that you are raising your hand in the google call chat. (This will be demonstrated)
- Please refrain from other side conversations, these can be distracting for the rest of the meeting and make it difficult for the chair to keep track of what's going on.
- If you're in the space remember that having a single person speaking at a time is helpful for those attending online.
Introductions
What does being excellent at i3 mean
An experienced member explains what being excellent at i3 means to them
- Jeff: You help the people follow the "4 p's." Also be open to criticism. We can communicate better around here.
Experienced Members
- Matt: President of i3. He's been on the board, joined in 2011. Been ZoCo of various zones. He likes to make board games on the laser cutter.
New Members & Guests
- Patt: On phase 2. Mostly does software stuff but has done some laser cutting for maps. Excite duo check out the space.
Show and Tell
- Brian: A boat that's been hanging around the space!! It's almost complete - it has paint and varnish. Almost ready for the water. Please feel free to ask if you want to know how it works!
- Matt has a tiny video game to show
Old Business
- Have multiple members being onboarded. There were issues with key cards.
- We need to make sure guests are signing in when they come to the space. There were events here where almost nobody signed in.
- Matt's philosophy: people will complain and we will say things need to change. However, if there are many meetings where there are complaints and they keep happening. Camera reviews will start if they continue!
- What are some ideas for people that don't attend meetings and need to know that they're breaking the rules? We could use the mailing list to do that. We can inform them that we are on teh verge of doing camera reviews. This will probably Goa. further way than just saying this is a problem we're having.
- AJ: We could leave some cleaning supplies on the tables too
- We could also use more garbage cans
- Please note any leaks we have during the rain that's coming
- Everybody please update your page in the wiki

Cleaning Topics
Cleaning
- If you eat at any of the tables in Commons, or anywhere else in i3, you should wipe down the table when you're finished.
- Even if you don't think you've spilled anything or made a mess, still wipe down the table because it tends to blend in and you probably actually have.
- If food is brought in to share, the surface it was left on should be wiped down and cleaned when it's finished. You should also dispose of whatever container it was in, and gather any plates / napkins / etc. that were put out for it. Don't just leave it scattered across the tables. This should be the responsibility of the person who finished it or the person who brought it in, but anyone can help.
- Seriously I don't care if you think you're the cleanest eater in the world, I guarantee you are not and I have probably had the privilege of cleaning up your crumbs or spilled / dripped sauces if you've eaten at i3 and neglected to clean up after yourself. - Aj
- If you work on anything at the tables in Commons (...or anywhere else in i3) and you use something like paint or are cutting something or doing anything else that can leave scraps or create mess, you should wipe down the surface you were using when you're finished. Even if you don't think you've made a mess.
- The Commons tables are scuffed, stained, and scratched. It can be hard to see when you've made a mess. It takes maybe one minute to wet a paper towel and wipe the table you were using. Start doing it. It will help keep the space cleaner, and prevent anyone from having the wonderful experience of coming to i3, putting something down on one of the tables, and discovering there was something sticky left on it by whoever last used it and didn't clean up.
- There are also rodents and cockroaches that will get to it. We're trying to prevent getting more of these.
Here is a breakdown of cleaning supplies, in case anyone is unsure:
- There are paper towels and wet wipes located on B-side, under the mezzanine between Wood Shop and Ceramics.
- There are paper towels by the slop sink on A-side
- Aj has been keeping a wet wipes container on A-side, on the shelves in Commons next to the suspended recliner. Please replace it if you use it up.
- There are trash cans all over the space, usually 3-5 on A-side in Commons as soon as you enter the building.
Here are the steps to clean a table:
- Gather and throw out any large scraps or pieces of trash. This can include things like plates, napkins, food containers, and papers.
- Get a wet wipe or paper towel. If you choose paper towel, wet it in the sink and ring it out so it isn't dripping.
- If you know the table is dirty, a wet wipe will make cleaning it easier. If the table is mostly clean and you're just doing a quick wipe to make sure, a paper towel will work fine.
- Wipe down the surface of the table, starting at one corner and moving across the surface in passes to ensure you get the entire table.
- If there's an obvious spill or stain that needs to be cleaned, you can start there first, then get a fresh paper towel or wet wipe to wipe the rest of the table if your first one has gotten too dirty.
- If you wipe the table down immediately after using it, it should be easy to get it clean.
- If the table has been left to sit for a little while, any spills or sauces may have started to dry by the time you go to clean it. If this is the case, you may need to go over the same spot a few times and rub at it to get it fully cleaned.
Proposals
Add camera directed towards Member Storage wood pylon area
Context
Our current cameras do not cover the wood pylon storage area, which seems like an oversight considering how many people go in and out of that area, and how much stuff is kept there.
A razor blade was also found stuck to one of the pylons with a magnet, and we can't figure out who did it or why because there's no camera over there.

Result: Pass
- There may be spare cameras lying around. We could check with infrastructure
- We may need to buy some, including some for e-lab and sewing
- Could be a potluck thing to do
Storage Rules Update
Amend the Standing Rules as follows:
In Section 5.8 (“Handling Abandoned Property at i3Detroit”), amend point 2.2 and 2.3 to the following:
- 2.2. The property is neither shared nor donated, does not have a legible, valid Parking Permit attached, and has an attached Parking Ticket with an expired grace period
- 2.3. The property is in member storage and is considered forfeited under “Handling Forfeited Space and Property in Member Storage” (see 6.4)
In Section 6.3 (“Member Storage”), amend point 7 to the following: “Member property must be stored safely and fit in the member’s plot.”
In Section 6 (“Storage”), insert new subsection 6.4 displacing current 6.4 to 6.5. The new subsection 6.4 will be labeled “Handling Forfeited Space and Property in Member Storage.” The contents of the subsection will be the following:
- In order to ensure storage usage, every storage plot will be issued a yellow tag by the storage zone coordinator on a tag month. These months are March, June, September, and December.
- A yellow tag must be resolved by removing it from the storage plot and disposing of it. This must be done by the person who has been assigned the plot in the CRM.
- A red tag is issued by the storage zone coordinator when:
- The member storage plot is in violation of the storage rules above (see 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3)
- The member storage plot has been issued a yellow tag that hasn’t been resolved by the following tag month. For example, if a yellow tag issued in the tag month of March and remains unresolved in the tag month of June, a red tag will be issued.
- When a red tag is issued, the storage zone coordinator will contact the individual who owns the storage plot.
- A red tag can be resolved by rectifying the infraction the tag was issued for and confirming this with the storage zone coordinator.
- Property in membership storage is considered forfeited and moved to the Graveyard if the storage plot is issued a red tag that isn’t resolved within 7 days of issuance.
This is a major update to member storage rules. The idea is the storage plots can have 2 different tags on them: yellow and red. Yellow tags are issued to everybody quarterly (March, June, September, and December) to ensure people regularly check their storage plot. Red tags are issued in cases where rules have been violated. To resolve a yellow tag, the member assigned the plot must simply remove the yellow tag from their plot's label. This must be done by the next tag month (in other words, the person has the remainder of that quarter to remove the tag). To resolve a red tag, the member assigned the plot must contact the storage ZoCo to resolve the tag. If the red tag isn't resolved within 7 days the property in member storage is considered forfeited.

- We will be shutting down printers that don't have a champion. You will need to check teh paper level and toner level. Jeff can't run it by himself.
Sewing Zone
- The HVAC needs either a tweak on its installation or a fix, as it indicates a leak
- Pattern tables have started, see Frank if you want to help
- The list of tasks has been updated
- Floor is not last, but installation is coming up soon. Once the floor goes in, there are several tasks that need to be done, such as baseboards, door framing, and installation of the south wall storage unit. Once those are complete, a phased move-in of fixtures can begin. In order to not overwhelm the area, these will go in as sections of the room, not all at once. Your patience is appreciated!
- Room planning and table design committee meeting has a whenisgood, posted to slack and the member list. The tops are being cut, but let's discuss legs and under-table storage! There are also some other room features that could use help in making reality so that's on the agenda for that as well.
- We got some bins for our supplies wall, at Joann Fabrics closing sale. After they get a cleaning, they can replace the cardboard boxes of supplies we have in storage.
- As for live zone things, the embroidery hoops have storage now permanently in the embroidery corner, and they will get labels printed for the size. The thread and the machine is still in the Craft Zone for now.
- There are a couple sewing buildouts. 11am is the start time.
Storage Zone
No updates I can currently think of, but I'm going to include a list of what needs to be done and some future goals:
- To be done:
- Finishing the relabeling on the highest wood pylons (requires usage of Genie and removing + replacing a few of the wood boards that can't be cleaned). If anyone is up to help with this, it'd be appreciated (Aj will provide the vinyl stickers)
- Finishing the relabeling on the vinyl racks
- Moving the conduit / piping that's currently next to one of the pylons
- Vacuuming and cleaning up B-side mezzanine
- Future Goals:
- Get team together to go through A-side mezzanines and get things cleaned up / better organized, so stuff can actually be accessed and we can fit more
- Help Kevin go through Craft Zone and get everything cleaned up + better organized

Screen Printing
- Screen printing SIG is looking for a leader
- Be the person of contact
- Set up equipment/maintain or coordinate volunteers to set up and maintain -- it's a group, you can delegate
- Offer classes/training or coordinate volunteers to do screen printing demos, workshops etc
- Screen printing resides within Craft Room but operates as a SIG with equipment, coordinate with Craft Zone coordinators as needed
- Screen printing is available at i3
- We have screens that you can add vinyl designs to, to create a "screen". Sort of faux screen printing, using screen printing inks. This is single color.
- We have a screen printing machine that uses transparencies to create a screen that you then use inks with onto your object. This is single color, but a demo video explains you can mask off areas of your screen to run multiple colors, so it is possible.
- There is a 4 color unit that is incomplete, needs a replacement piece. Due to its currently unusable nature, it has until the end of June to find a champion willing to replace the missing part(s) and prove its functionality to the Craft Zone, in order to stay. If i3 members want 4 color screen printing, the time is now to secure it.
Rules and Stuff
- Would be great to have some people for this since we're ready to send the bylaws draft
- We know who can send it to
- Can be done at the next meeting
