Hybrid Meeting Etiquette

  • Be excellent.
  • Attendance and voting can be found in the #meetings slack channel.
  • Please show up early if you are concerned about your audio.
  • If there is no one waiting to speak feel free to do so at the next opportunity.
  • If there is someone waiting to speak, please say that you are raising your hand in the google call chat. (This will be demonstrated)
  • Please refrain from other side conversations, these can be distracting for the rest of the meeting and make it difficult for the chair to keep track of what's going on.
  • If you're in the space remember that having a single person speaking at a time is helpful for those attending online.

Sandblasters without a zone

  • Nate B would like to bring up the unclaimed nature of the sandblasters and figure out how to handle that.
  • This probably doesn't need resolving immediately, but it'd be nice if they had a ZoCo.
  • Problem: One sandblaster turned into two, and they're crowding the auto-zone. A generous donation, but maybe the old one should leave?
  • Problem: Something apparently isn't filtered or sealed properly, and covers the area with dust. Bad for lungs. Wear respirators. Who has the authority to shut the machines down until they're fixed and safe to use again?
  • Discuss!
  • Nobody knows much about sandblasters. However, it looks like Thomas A repaired the gloves and he may know what is wrong with the sandblaster and could be the designated person for it.
Action Item: - Reach out to Thomas A and see if he would be willing to take care of the sandblaster

Laminator

  • The laminator appears to not have a designated zone
  • Drew has offered to champion taking care of the laminator
  • Nate B: there’s a bunch of “paper processing tools” that seem to be one function. Maybe they should have their own wiki?

Roof Leak

  • There's been a leak on the roof for a few weeks now. It would be best to take care of this before there's any snow.
  • It won't be sufficient to go up there with caulk. One source of entry is around the fan. It will need tarring also
  • It may also need a specialized pad
Action Item: - Go to a hardware store and buy some tar to seal up the leak.

Class Suggestions

  • We've had many popular classes recently. People seem to not know that others would be very interested in attending a class about topics they can teach
  • There is now a Slack channel called "classes-training" which can be used for class suggestions
  • Thomas also came up with a form for registering an event or class. It's a Google form that will be pinned in the above channel.

November 2024 Zone Coordinator Report (Hans)

  • Classes: Excellent work Thomas Burns for getting the classroom reserved for classes and events.
  • Classroom Reservations: Approval is now needed to reserve the classroom. I reserve discretion to approve events. My general criteria are technical events that have a reasonable expectation of being attended by multiple people. Also, I may reserve the classroom exclusively available for certain i3 administrative functions such as the monthly Memberfication / Treasurer Meeting.
  • Classroom Calendar: Classroom events will now be exclusively tracked on the Main Event Calendar. The previous classroom resource calendar will no longer be used.

A-Side Office Area HVAC (Heating and Cooling)

  • The Classroom needs good climate control. A/C was non-functional during this hot summer and classroom too uncomfortable to be used.
  • Many Thanks to all who've helped look at the roof, thermostat, discussed the issue, and provided advice.
  • HVAC Proposals: Board Actions: The board reviewed proposals and passed them as follows. (1) $400 for inspection for Repair; and (2) Hans is now point of contact for HVAC repair for A-side's office area.
  • AC Issue: Cause & Repair: Alex and his friend Sergey inspected the HVAC and determined that the compressor line has a leak. It would require repairing the line and filling it with fresh coolant. This is the same conclusion that Tim and Jacob has arrived at. Material costs for repair would be ranging between $300 to $400 of materials, not included labor. Labor estimates are at least several hours.
  • Heat: The heat wasn't working when we went to test it. Alex's friend Sergey got our heat working, by turning on the main gas valve located at the meter.
  • Thermostat: Traditional Thermostat has been placed for A-side.
  • Next Steps: Stay Tuned!

Craft Room

  • The north wall got painted! This means the shelving system can be bolted to the wall and loaded with general craft tools and supplies.
  • The rest of the craft area is still in flux while it awaits its electrical feed.
  • Kevin has set up a gluing station with surface, glue guns and supplies at the ready!!

Electronics Lab

  • Overdue, but would like to acknowledge Richard Weeden's help in tidying up some shelves and finding a much better place to keep the vises.
  • Tomorrow's ultra-basic-electronics session is sold out.
  • Speaking of which, I'm looking for people to host or help with more classes, they're selling out so there's clearly an appetite. The bar is not high, especially for a free session, and it really helps bring people into the space.

Sewing Zone

  • Old craft/sewing room has a "new to us" chair for sewing.
  • New sewing room has power in the ceiling lights though currently they are accessed only from the breaker box.
  • Many thanks again to the great crew that assembled on Saturday Nov 2 (and on days during the week prior) to get the conduit run and wires pulled for sewing and elab.
  • It was a super productive day, as the fitting room also got sanded and primed, the little drywall jobs got finished, more mudding where it was waiting, etc. Full update was posted in space business channel.
  • Our focus task now turns to the wood foundations that will tie the windows, door, and slatwall (wall storage system) together. There are things for everyone, every skill set, to do. All are welcome -- please see Jan or David about the sewing room if you have questions about helping the build! Let's do this again! Next scheduled date is November 16, though short weekday tasks get arranged too. Information will be shared via slack expansion channel, the calendar, and the email list.
