Introductions

New Members & Guests

  • Nick knows Paul and Matt and is here visiting
  • Miguel visited a couple years ago and is back to join.

  • David: Fairy Godmother magic wand - acrylic handle turned on lathe, 7 feet of LEDs, and fiber optics sticking out the end to look like sparks shooting out of the wand.

Camera Movement and/or Addition

Mtfurlan (talk)

  • We would like to move the tool crib camera to get a better view of the tool crib wall, and add or move the south wood shop camera so we can actually look at the tools at the north end of the woodshop.
  • Mike: We don't need to vote if we just move them. Just need zone coordinator to approve.
  • Mark: Oh ok. Not sure if we need to add or move.

Zone updates

CNC Zone

  • Thinking seriously of getting rid of the pallet changer to give us more room in the machine and to gain some accuracy.
  • Drew Jackson is Authorized to use the CNC Wood Router!! Steve and I will be writing up the authorization procedure.
  • Take a look at the really nice guide rails upgrade Steve (with the help of Drew and a few others) did to the machine.
  • There is one member in the process of getting Authorized to use the HAAS

Craft Room

  • The babylock serger has gone in for service. It wasn't returned to us in full working order from the first service visit.
  • The embroidery machine is now at the service man's shop.

Electronics Lab

  • It's a third-tuesday meeting, so I'll keep the update very short and sweet:
  • Thank you to Mike and Mark and everyone else who's been working on bins and drawers and keeping ahead of entropy.
  • Thank you to Charlie who pointed out the sad state of the tweezers. There are new tweezers and more on the way.
  • Further news in #elab on Slack.
  • That's all, folks!

Injection Molding

  • A lot of molding has been going on. Jim Kemp has molded 50 lbs of Tank Tread:)
  • The new controller is great and allows us to add many features to the operation of the machine. Now that the first one is done it will be much easier to get the other two updated.
  • The larger molder seems to be in good mechanical shape. It you go look at it, you can see the "innards" which revel the working part of the machine which is the screw. Notice the different depths of the flute, it is designed that way for feeding, metering and compressing the material prior to injection.
  • 5 people signed up for the Beyond 3D Printing - Injection Molding Class tomorrow night. Limit is 8. It is free and on the calendar.

Jewelry Zone

  • Tanya is temporarily out of commission but will be back soon for more classes.

Media Lab

Rburns

  • Updates: New zone coordinator, Robert Burns. New software for subwoofer/bassbin design, BassBoxPro, is now on the Windows PC. Donated by Bill Cleveland.
  • Topics: Patching the Media Lab wall.
    • Is the plumbing issue fixed or should we wait on the wall patching? Do we still have the green paint that was previously used on the walls?
      • Plumbing is done. Will need new paint.
  • Is there a solid reason behind the separate zones, Media Lab & Compute Zone?
    • Can we unify them? (same with the slack, there is Media Zone, Compute Zone, and Print Zone. Can we make 3 into 1?)
      • James: Having the printer channel for printing help is useful.
      • David agrees, it helps things not get burried in other chat. From a zone standpoint it makes sense to combine them.
      • Mark agrees on combining zones.
      • General agreement on that point.

Wood Shop

  • Storage pylon is moving this coming Saturday to give the woodshop more space. Please move your stuff before then.
