- Rory is here as a new member who does leatherwork and painting. He found i3 online when searching for spaces like this.
Show and Tell
- Paul A has spent the past couple weeks cleaning and organizing all of the video games in the commons.
Old Business
Elections
- POC: Secretary
- 15 candidates have accepted nominations so far. Deadline to nominate and respond is tomorrow, 8/22 at 11:59pm. And please nominate before the very last minute.
New Business
Right to Repair
- POC: John (@Coogle)
- Meeting with Rep. Wittenberg on Aug 30, 5:15 pm at i3 to discuss legislation
- Right to Repair's view is we as consumers have the right to repair things we buy and not be forced by a manufacturer to only allow them to do repairs. We currently have this for cars and the goal is to extend this to electronics.
- Coogle contacted his Rep (who is also Ferndale's Rep) and he'll be here for an hour to meet and discuss possibly introducing this legislation in michigan.
- There's a slack channel #right-to-repair to discuss.
- Plan is to have a smaller group meet with the Rep to not overwhelm him.
- Paul A: What's the current state of the law? What happens if we repair a phone?
- Coogle: The manufacturer doesn't have to give you technical information or support to be able to repair a phone, and it voids the warranty.
- Nate: I can't repair your phone without schematics.
- Matt H: And some hardware like iPhones require authorized parts.

- There was a piece on Maker Faire on WWJ recently and Vivian was featured briefly in an interview.
Zone updates
Craft Room
- New iron is ordered and will be installed soon.
- Kevin reminds that he offers watercolor and oil painting classes upon request.
Electronics Lab
- There should be some new parts drawers with things we haven't stocked before.
Fab Lab
- Zone seems to be running great, no issues reported.
Jewelry Zone
- Lew: We moved around the jewelry zone.
- Planning to better affix some fixtures to the wall/treehouse floor above te wall.
Laser Zone
- Wolverine has been running well. Bumblebee has been mostly good with a couple glitches reported.
- Had several successful classes last week on laser maintenance and using Fusion 360 for laser cutting.
- Let Mike know if you're interested in seeing thsoe happen again or any other class ideas you have.
Welding Zone
- We had some good classes recently.
- If you're interested in more classes, slack or email Jody, he's very flexible with scheduling.
Space Project Updates
- Fire Marshall is coming for an inspection Friday morning. We should have everything ready for that now.
