HOWTO Troubleshoot DNS Issues

From i3Detroit

The space uses split horizon DNS, meaning that any records for local services are held locally and not accessible outside of the space network. This will only work if your device is configured to use the space's DNS server, and you of course won't be able to resolve anything if you're offsite.

To test if your DNS is configured correctly, visit i3.lc in a browser and the page will tell you! You may also have to flush your DNS cache before testing if you've recently made changes.

OS-level DNS

Windows

macOS

Open System Settings > Wi-Fi > Details... Then, in the DNS tab, ensure your DNS server is set to 10.13.0.1. If you're using a wired connection, you'll need to do the same but under Network > Ethernet (or similar) > Details...

Linux

iOS/iPadOS

Open Settings > Wi-Fi, then tap the info icon next to the connected network. Under Configure DNS, ensure your DNS server is set to 10.13.0.1.

Android

VPN

If you're using a space-provided VPN configuration, you should have no issues.

If you use a third-party VPN service (like NordVPN, Mullvad, etc), you won't be able to access space DNS as everything will routed through their servers. If your provider/client supports split tunneling by IP range or domain (as opposed to per-app customization), that should enable access to the local network. Your mileage may vary as some providers may have varying behavior on which/how DNS servers are used in this configuration.
