HOWTO Connect To The Printers

From i3Detroit

For a list of printers in the space as well as specifics of how to use each one, see Media Lab.

Access

Most computers around the space already have the printers set up, and most printers support printing from USB. So, if you just have a one-off job, you may find that easier than trying to wrangle printer software nonsense. But if you prefer to print on your own machine, first find the hostname of the printer you want to use (written on the device itself and/or its wiki page), and follow these instructions:

Windows

Open Settings > Devices & Printers > Add printer manually. Choose the "Add printer by IP or hostname" option and type the hostname. On the next screen, choose IPP Printer.

macOS

Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners > Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax... Then from the globe (IP) tab, ensure Internet Printing Protocol is selected, type the printer's hostname, and click add. In the popup, check Duplex Printing Unit and click OK.

GNOME-based Linux

Open Settings > Printers > Add Printer... Type the hostname in. You should be able to use the Generic > Generic PDF Printer driver if you're in a rush, but drivers do exist for most of our printers if you care to search for them.
