Intro
This is a printer owned by i3Detroit for use of the members.
Rules
Training and authorization required before use. To obtain training, contact ZoCo or send a message on Slack in the #fablab channel.
- Calendar reservation required during duration of print. Please either pre-book or schedule when starting a print the estimated duration of the print. Reason: So that availability of the printer is known to anyone wanting to come to the space to start a print, since longer prints will likely be the norm.
- Costs: (money goes toward replacing consumables and maintenance costs)
- Filament: $0.05/g (free if you provide your own)
- Hourly usage: $0.25/hour (only applies while printing, does not include time sitting on bed waiting for pickup)
- If your print finishes and you are not around, leave instructions for how the print should be dealt with if different from "remove from bed and place aside".
Instructions
This printer uses PrusaSlicer. You can send your file remotely with PrusaLink, just visit its hostname in the browser and use the following credentials: maker, 35ULQZpttWWRHD3.
Maintenance Info
When not in use, keep build plate clean and cleared of any debris. Remove any print debris from space below build plate and printer housing.
FAQ
What is the build volume?
- 360mm x 360mm x 360mm
What materials can this printer print?
- Currently PLA and PETG are tested, need to confirm settings for TPU/TPE, Nylon, Edge, ABS, and PC. Enclosure will likely be required for ABS and PC. Enclosure to be built, ask the ZoCo if you want to help!
How many colors / materials can I print at once?
- Printer has Five (5) independent tools. This means 5 different filaments can be used in one print automatically. More colors and materials would need to be manually changed out during the print. If you need more than this, the ZoCo would like to know!
I can print multiple materials in the same print? How?
- Check here: https://help.prusa3d.com/article/combining-materials-xl_498103
- Currently PETG as a support for PLA is tested and works well, the opposite should also be true. For PETG as support, make sure the bed temperature and wipe tower are set to use PETG for best results. If you find other combinations that work well, post about it on slack or the whiteboard and let the ZoCo know!
What size nozzles are on the printer?
- Currently all tools have a 0.4mm nozzle, some are hardened. Right now they are labeled with a tape mark on the tool saying either "0.4" = 0.4mm brass, or "0.4H" = 0.4mm hardened. Please keep abrasive materials only to the hardened nozzles. If you would like different sizes, let the ZoCo know.
Can I print with different size nozzles on different tools?
- Uncertain. Experimental, not fully supported in PrusaSlicer. See: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-xl-tool-changer-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/guide-how-to-print-with-multiple-nozzle-sizes/
I have a question not listed here! But in question form?
- Reach out to the ZoCo or message the #fablab Slack channel.
ToDo
- Attach build plate holder to wall and obtain additional XL build plates
- Build enclosure
- Obtain sturdier table for XL
- Test stuff
- Can we attach an MMU?
