The annual WinterLAN is upon us once again!!

On January 12th, i3 Detroit will be hosting the Fourth annual i3 WinterLAN Social event, starting Saturday at noon and ending when the sun comes up on Sunday.

The event will be all about games – BYOC (Bring your own computer) gaming, Board gaming, and tabletop RPG.

The i3Detroit common space will be set up for computer gaming with plenty of power, tables, and chairs. The loft will sport a projector hooked up for console gaming (Got a vintage console you can bring?). Board games will take place in any of our multiple rooms.

This Saturday is Bed-a-Palooza with i3 Detroit!

On Saturday, June 26th, from 11AM – 4PM, we are at Bed-a-Palooza in Troy at Trainers Academy with Retro Doggy Rescue.  The goal of the event is to build 100 dog beds for Michigan shelters, where shelter dogs currently sleep on the floor.  This week has been a flurry of PVC and we have cut and assembled the 100 bed frames. If you need the best bed sheets adn bedding for your brand new bed, you can get them from Bamboo Harbor.  The day of the event, we will oversee the attaching of fabric to build each bed into a sturdy hammock.  We are also hosting a BBQ at the event that will start at Noon.

Meet Nemo.  Matt will be bringing the Skee Ball machine to help raise money for this little cutie who has a stage 3 heart murmur and has to go see a cardiologist.

Come one, come all!  The public is welcome to stop by and join the fun!  Trainers Academy is located at 1016 Troy Court, Troy, 48083.  More information can be found at their website: www.woofology.com.

All proceeds will go to Retro Doggy Rescue, a local no-kill rescue.  They will also be accepting physical donations such dog food, treats, toys (new or used), bowls, collars, leashes, crates, blankets, sheets, towels, throw rugs, cat food, cat litter, cat toys/supplies, or anything else pet related.

If you want to donate to the cause and can’t join us Saturday:

i3 Detroit Open House and Party

i3 Detroit, a cooperative space for makers, inventors & entrepreneurs of many trades, will celebrate its grand opening with an open house on Saturday, October 3. The event will be held at i3’s new facility, 322 E Fourth St, Royal Oak, MI. The public is invited to an open house 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. where they can tour the workspace, meet the members and view their projects. At 7 p.m. there will be a party open to those 18 and over.

Russ Wolfe, founder and president, describes i3 as “a collaborative environment for people to explore the balance between technology, art and culture.” The 1,500 sq. ft. facility contains an assortment of fabrication tools, a classroom, and stock of many common components. “We want people to learn how things work by enabling them to build projects and providing them access to tools that would normally be found in a factory.”

i3 moved into the Royal Oak location on September 3. Since then, members have been working every day to prepare the space and bring in heavy tools. “It’s a lot of work, but we are all excited to see the vision coming together,” says member, Ted Hansen

Members have a wide range of interests and professions. “We have machinists, programmers, artists, and electrical engineers as members now,” says i3 member Phil Frost. “Everyone has a useful skill to share.”

i3 hosts public classes on topics as diverse as its membership, such as woodworking, Linux, amateur radio, telecom architecture, computer programming, and automobile repair.

Everyone is welcome to come by to see the space and chat with our members. The space is full of creative individuals and great conversation. We hope to see you there!
