What:
Epoxy resin is not a well-known artistic medium. Epoxy resin is used in 2d paintings as well as sculptures. The amazing, unique properties of epoxy resin offers an infinite number of combinations and outcomes when adding color to the resin.

Mixing resin with various color mediums such as acrylic paint, inks, and pigment powder tend to create various ways in which the colored resins interact with each other on a canvas. The resin also allows for a multitude of layers to evolve as it cures. These layers add incredible depth to the painting, making the painting more than just a two dimensional piece of art.

Students will learn various resin art techniques. The students will create their own 8 1/2 x 11 inch canvas resin artwork to take home.

 

Miniature Painting Class/Meetup 11/17/2017

Alec and Swit are offering a miniature painting workshop 7 – 10 pm November 17, 2017. Come learn how to paint cool gaming miniatures for games like D&D, Warhammer, or just make you favorite board game a little fancier.  The paint is non-toxic acrylic. It will stain clothes.
10 People Maximum.
 $5 material fee.
Paints, brushes, and pallets will be available. A few miniatures will be available for $3-5 or bring your own. You are welcome to bring your own kit but we’ll still ask for the material fee to cover permanent painting supplies for the i3Detroit classroom.

Description:

Futel appears to be nothing more than a collection of payphones installed in public locations, no different than the phones found on any street corner. Except these ones are being installed, not removed. And they work, usually, and they’re free. And if the caller doesn’t have a human to interact with, one might be provided.

Find out what we hope to achieve by starting a free telephone network. In addition to discussing the struggles of putting phones on the street, we will describe our spiritual ancestry from phone phreaks to mail artists to fare evaders, and our reasons for creating useful and nonuseful devices out of discarded junk.
Speaker bio:

Karl Anderson is an experimenter who is good at thinking up projects but bad at predicting whether or not they will be practical. With C.H.U.N.K. 666, he has constructed amphibious human-powered vehicles out of trash. With the Church of Robotron, he has built a skill testing and training facility, indoctrination center, and reading room to reinforce the post-apocalyptic survival tenets of a coin-operated video game.

Flask is a popular Python package for developing web applications. Flask is considered a “micro” framework with a simple core and numerous extensions for database integration, form validation, authentication and more.

During the class Bruce will demonstrate a simple website using Flask in a Python virtual environment. Topics will include the model-view-controller (MVC) paradigm, Jinja2 templates and if time permits, integrating a simple SQLite database using SQLAlchemy.

Requirements:

– Some prior knowledge of Python
– Bring a personal laptop if you want to create the website during the class. (Code will be provided.)
