Friend of i3 Detroit, Nick Gaydos, is putting on Ignite IT tomorrow at the Detroit Marriott.  It is tied to a local IT convention but the public is welcome to the Ignite talks.  Check it out.

Ignite IT is an afternoon of information systems themed presentations with a twist.

Speakers have exactly five minutes to tell us their story, enlighten us, or simply inspire—backed by twenty slides auto-advancing every fifteen seconds.

Quick, fun, and to the point!

Our first event, Ignite IT will be held as part of AMCIS 2011 in Detroit, Michigan.

Mark your calendars for 4pm Friday, August 5th, 2011 at the Marriott in Downtown Detroit, Michigan.

Maker Faire Press

There is lots of great press about Maker Faire Detroit this year.  I’ve even seen two articles from the Pure Michigan Blog.  Getting really pumped for the event.  Check these out:

This article i3 Detroit gets a shout out.

Michigan hackerspaces, places throughout the state where computer program developers and designers  work together, sharing space and ideas to create new projects, also took the opportunity to showcase their projects. For example, i3Detroit of Ferndale drove its Twinkie car around the fair and shot Twinkies into the air, amusing everyone.

This article talks more about the Crafting aspect of the faire.

The event is this weekend 7/30 – 7/31 starting at 9:30a.  Come out and support your local hackerspace and see the great projects from across Michigan and the Great Lakes.

2nd Annual Maker Faire After Party

It’s time for another Maker Faire which means another official Maker Faire After Party.  Come join us this Saturday night (7/30) at 9p for drinks, snacks and DJs.  This will give you a chance to meet the members and tour the shop.  We also have a special treat – we have a sneak peak at the Electromagnate hackerspace documentary that will be showing at the event.  Shoot a note to contact@i3detroit.com if you have any questions.

Open Shop – TONIGHT (7/22 – 7pm)

Join i3 Detroit for last ditch efforts to build Maker Faire projects.  We will be there at 7pm until the sun comes up. 

Bring your Maker Faire project to work on or pitch in on some of the group projects.  If you have never seen i3 Detroit, tonight is the night.  It will be filled with members, tools a flying and projects a finishing.

This SUCKS…new dust vac at i3 Detroit

Always concerned with the safety of the space, i3 Detroit invested in a mammoth, grain silo-esque dust collector for the space.  Negotiated done to 4% of it’s full retail price (used market is awesome), we now have a 15 foot tall, 7 hp dust collector.  This cyclonic beast can provide suction to all of our wood working tools, the neighbors, the neighbors neighbors and most of the rest of Ferndale.
